In Maori spirituality Te Wheke or octopus is a supreme symbol of total wellbeing. The ancient people understood that with its eight tentacles it covered and embraced all directions and all dimensions of our wellbeing.

Each of the arms represent an aspect and dimension of ourselves that when nurtured and honored, contributes to the expression of our full potential.

Dr Rangimarie Turuki Arikirangi Rose Pere a Maori elder and Tohuna Tipua sower and keeper of sacred knowledge from the Kura Huna describes Te Wheke as a celebration of the infinite wisdom in terms of the ancient teachings of Hawaiiki.
