Shaping Our Children's Minds
Each child is a unique treasure. Carrying within themselves their unique journey, ‘set’ of talents, and with that preferences for assimilating experiences, understanding knowledge and bringing thought into action.
The classroom for the 21st century learner has become for many, a haven for technology, a place restricted to indoor internal spaces and with expectations placed to meet standardised testing and norms. The emphasis remains on developing the left side of the brain, the logical and rational mind through exercising the mental body with mental exercises. It has become norm for children to work alongside others in large groups, indoors and in a highly stimulated environment.
Long forgotten is the child’s original classroom: the expanse of the natural world and the teacher, Mother Nature herself. In the past the child more often learnt through practical, physical experiences which related directly to their unique set of talents they carried. The heart felt, right relationship the child held with the natural world enabled the soul’s learning and for spirit to be active in the life.
Within the present conventional education or learning environment ‘terrain’, many of our children are challenged with ‘learning difficulties’. What is observed as a child’s negative attitude or behaviour toward learning, signals an imbalance which can be restored by bringing nature to the child. When the child cannot be taken to nature, we are now in a time and place where nature can be brought to the child.
The First Light® flower essences have proven to me through experience, time and time again, their efficacy to assist the child as the learner, providing them with the support required to navigate the classroom whether they have identified with learning difficulties or not. The pressure placed on our children to reach preconceived expectations through constant assessment and testing is often enough to set them up for stressful lives. Stress is very destructive to greater wellbeing. This stress, anxiety, avoidance or depression related to learning, the classroom, school can be supported with First Light Flower Essences No 7 Mountain Parahebe, No 8 Matata and No 9 Koru.
No 7 Mountain Parahebe is the essence of choice to assist a child to believe in their mental abilities, empowering them to trust their own mind. It is a useful ally if distraction is a problem as it brings focus and mental calmness to the situation. The communication essence, it will assist the child to put thoughts, feelings and emotions into words, thus enabling them to articulate the knowledge they carry. Most useful in assessment or exam scenarios. If your child is experiencing pain, anger or avoidance relating to school this is your essence of choice.
No 8 Matata is the essence for ‘gifted’ children whose educational needs are not met by the conventional forms of learning. Children who are highly strung due to an excess of mental energy or find themselves easily bored in the classroom environment will benefit from No 8 Matata in a blend. This essence is very well suited for those with mental hyperactivity, stress or anxiety relating to school, learning or studies.
No 9 Koru is very helpful if the child is challenged with concentration and the ability to keep one’s attention on learning matters.
