Sensitivity as Strength (Part 1)
Sensitivity is a gift that when handled with care and channelled postively in the life is a powerful and beautiful thing. Being a sensitive individual is quite different to being weak or ineffectual.
Our sensitivities are what allow us to sense, understand, and interact with the subtle and not so subtle energies that surround us all in the great sea of energy we are all part of. For some sensitive folks however, levels of sensitivity may be incredibly heightened and potentially problematic when not supported and expressed in a positive, productive manner. Detrimental effects on the health of the mind, body - particularly the nervous system – and spirit can occur.
Giving the appropriate and necessary support and nourishment to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of self is important for sensitive individuals to enable them to function well in the world.
Reducing or avoiding stimulants such as caffeine, sugar, refined foods and alcohol can help strengthen and maintain the nervous systems of sensitive individuals. Ensuring adequate dietary intake of high quality fats is also important to nourish cells, particularly those of the nervous system, as fats are an integral component of the insulating myelin sheath that surrounds nerve cells, including the brain and spinal cord. Virgin, cold-pressed oils such as flaxseed, olive and coconut may be of particular benefit.
External sources of overstimulation can be more difficult to avoid as we exist in a world of sensory overload and constant bombardment from electromagnetic frequencies.
